Directions by Car
From the M6
Leave at Junc 40. Take A66 east, then A686 East towards Alston joining the A689. Go through the centre of Alston continuing on the A689 for about 6.5 miles. After going through Nenthead, and climbing and descending a steep hill, Hill Top is accessed via a track on the left hand side. The first turning encountered is to White Hall. The Hill Top turning is a short distance further on. Go up the track from the main road and turn left after 300 yards.
From the A1(M)
Leave A1(M) at Scotch Corner and head west towards Barnard Castle/Penrith.
After 10 miles turn right for Barnard Castle.
Continue to Barnard Castle and turn right through town centre.
Turn right onto Galgate following A67.
Turn left onto Harmire Rd/B6278
Continue through Middleton in Teesdale towards Alston.
Shortly after the Langdon Beck pub turn right on unclassified road towards St John’s Chapel.
At St John’s Chapel turn left towards Alston.
Stay on the A689 towards Alston until you reach the Killhope Lead Mining Museum.
Hill Top is the next entrance on the right after ¼ mile.
